Those winglets...

These winglets are awesome.

New 737 ...
looks exactly like old 737.
Meh

What’s different? A little longer, more advanced wings, better engines and avionics? All of the above? More in depth than that?
(Besides the winglets and the 787 style fairing around the engines I mean)

If it works, it works.

I didn’t read in depth, but I imagine that’s about it. A few efficiency improvements here and there.

Dat LEAP engine.

They’ve come a long way from the old cigars...

plus every awesome thing GE does helps my portfolio. So, thanks GE!

Portfolio to the MAX!

So it's still using the old 707 fuselage... that's really cool. whodathunkit

you’re welcome!

Yeah, I guess if it ain’t broke.....just make a bunch of gradual, incremental improvements over the course of 50 years.

The main goal is reduced operating costs; the engines have 15% less fuel burn for more thrust, the wing is supposedly between 15-20% more efficient, etc, etc. But they do get a little better control interface and so on.

what division?
![]() 12/08/2015 at 16:02 |

Yeah guess, they just made it bigger.
Damn model bloat.

Aviation! I’m quite familiar with some parts of that engine

cool, I like turbine design and have been following along for a while.

I photographed this 737-900 at KAUS with the split scimitar winglets a few weeks ago. Totally bad ass. I sent this picture to f86sabre, and he replied, “Yeah, the new winglets are cool. We are just waiting for someone to hit one.”

Yeah, I bet they’re fun to repair.

Here’s a pretty good article about the Max written by Paul Thompson, who used to run Flight Club.

Is it just the angle of the photo, or is the nose longer and pointier?
![]() 12/08/2015 at 16:20 |

I didn’t see anything about fuselage changes so I’m guessing it’s just the angle of the picture.

We've been lucky thus far. Heard Southwest is going through them though.

FAA certification is extremely difficult and expensive for a new design. Changing an existing aircraft still isn’t easy, but it’s a heck of a lot more cost effective

The nose is essentially the same as has been produced for nearly 50 years now (and very close to those of the 707/727). There was a production change a few years back that does make the nose appear a bit different, and that’s the removal of the eyebrow windows.

Love those nacelles
